  • Parts washer fluid needed

    I normally use kerosine in my parts washer and it works great. However I need to buy a safe, non-flamable fluid for a location that requires such a fluid. Can anybody recomend a good brand?

    Why is it that the inside of old truck cabs smell so good?

      Cleaning solution

      Gordon;

      Have you used any of these? If so, how do they compare to kerosine?

        No, I have not used any of those. At a previous employer the machine shop tried a citrus based chem and did not like it.

          While this doesn't directly answer your question & may not be of any value, I'll add this.
          I once had a 5 gal bucket that was partially full of anti-freeze that I had drained out of my radiator. I was working on another part of the engine & accidently dropped a greasy bolt into the bucket. I reached into the bucket to retrieve the bolt. When I did, both the bolt & my hand were totally free of grease. I was amazed that the anti-freeze had such an effect on the grease. This was almost 30yrs ago & I know it's not advisable to have chemicals contact your skin.

            For the parts washer in my basement at home, I have "Oil Eater" that I bought from Graingers. It's OK, but not as good as the Safety Kleen stuff at work. However, it is not hideously toxic like the Safety Kleen and doesn't smell up the place etc.

              We use a hot water washer that has a powdered detergent blended in. It does very well, and the detergent has a rust inhibitor added to prevent flash rusting. The unit uses a combination of hot water and high pressure spray to get the job done. Requires no man power other than loading and unloading components. No issues with flammability and is non-toxic.
