  • NOS Floor Mat

I have finally found the NOS floor mat that was part of my 1965 WM300 purchase several years ago. I purchased the truck from an older friend and was not in a big hurry about getting all the parts that went with it. He couldn't remember where he put it so I was never sure if it really existed but he said he bought a brand new floor mat from the dealer when he got his truck, which was about 1973. Well, recently he went to assisted living with his wife and the property was going up for sale, 13 acres and several large buildings filled with 60 years of accumulated parts, tools, junk, and treasures. I helped his son retrieve many things while keeping an eye out for power wagon items. With the time running out, I finally located the floor mat among old camping items, air cleaners, and some antiques. About half of the original box was intact and parts of the mat were subjected to some intense heat from when the building was partially on fire from an out of control neighboring grass fire around 1984. Anyway I thought I would share my NOS floor mat that does not look NOS.

Wow, that's quite the find. You're right, it doesn't look particularly new (or even NOS), but I'd be surprised if rubber parts would, even without a fire. Is it still pliable at all, or closer to being crispy?

It's still really pliable. I need to lay it out in the sun on one of these hot days and put a trans tunnel under it.

I am restoring a '48 that had remnants of the NOS mat in it when it came to my shop. The mat contributed mightily to the decay of the steel floor panels. Jute -backed rubber against a steel floor, with regular doses of mud, snow and rain is a perfect storm for rust.
