    Hello, does anyone know how to identify a np 540 5 speed trans. I have one but can't positively id it.It was out of a 60s dodge school bus. It does have some numbers on it

    What numbers are on yours?

      Thanks for the info, the one I have looks just like that. There where some numbers on it.1789186 dd-16 12-3-6 a on a tag on a pto cover bolt. Also c-92581 cast into the side. On top by shifter 97297 67. Any idea what it's worth, I do need to check if it's an od trans, it was out of a bus.

        Forgot to mention mine has the e-brake band on the back of the trans.

          I am 95% certain it is NOT an OD version. They just don't show up in Dodges. One way to tell is to look at the shifter knob, 4th & 5th are reversed on the OD version (5th is forward).

          I bought a NP540 with E-brake from a 76 S600 school bus for I think $400. Had a friend deliver it to me from Kansas. I had already bought the flywheel/bellhousing/clutch components from the same tranny earlier.
