  • rod knock replacement motor?

While driving my m37 to a carshow last week, I got a sudden puff of smoke followed by the kind of noises we all dread . The truck was low on oil. I stopped and a friend went and found some 15w40 which we added. the truck still runs, limped it to the show, and slowly home. however I have a slight rodknock or tick when the engine isn't under load, such as going down hill. I plan on taking the pan down next weekend to see what I can find out about the bearings etc.any suggestions compression check, is it worth replacing the rod bearings? or just a waste of money and bearings? also met a guy at the show with a running 230 out of a 48 dodge towtruck. He said it has a Desoto crank in it, does this have a different stroke? possibly a higher rpm motor? depending on how bad my 230 is this may wind up in my truck.
