While in high school, 40+ years ago, a man I knew had a 1 1/2 ton WW II radio van and I wanted to get it from him but he refused to sell. As it turned out years later it rusted away to a hulk with a tree growing up through the middle of it (greed).
My next introduction to 4 wheel drive was a 1947 CJ2A Jeep which I managed to get from the national guard a full set of canvas. I actually took my wife on our first date in this, much to her displeasure. I later decided to trade it for an M38 A1 Air Force Jeep with a Southwind heater. I saw an ad in the Baltimore Sun from a man who wanted to trade a like-new M37 for an M38 A1. The gentleman drove the M37 from Baltimore for me to inspect (about 35 miles). It turned out he was Willard Graves, a PHD Physicist studying the effects of thermal discharge from atomic power plants into our streams. The study was over and the Army gave him the M37 which was too big for him in the city. I however live in a rual area and it was just perfect for me. I have been in love with M37's ever since. I have owned 6 M37's and a 1944 WC52. I also have an M880 1977 Dodge, in camo, with the original 318 engine. I have replace the manual steering with a power steering from a Ram Charger. Also an M101 trailer that sits in the back yard, which I am sure thrills the neighbors.
