  • 47 WDX headlight switch

    I need to remove my headlight switch from the dash to trouble shoot my headlight fuse burning out and having no power to the lights. I thought it was a simple removal of a fastening nut but there isn't one for this switch and I don't want to mar the switch or paint as both are in very good condition is there an easy way to get these there is two, head light and dash light switches separated from the dash ?

    After you pull out the knob and stem you unscrew
    The chrome bezel.

    You need a too like this. You can grind a old socket to fit.

    Eric usually sells these and the one pictured is for later trucks,
    But you get the idea.

    You can check with him and see if he has the earlier tool.

      Thanks Tom, getting the knob off is where Im stuck there seems to be a small slot on the bottom of the knob and I thought there was some way to release the knob from there but its firmly attached. Does the stem unscrew ?

        No.
        You are correct in removing the knob.

        Soak it and keep trying.

          I finally found the correct fuse, it is about 3/8'' longer than standard fuses that Im familiar with and with that all of the lights are back working. Tom one thing I found looking for shorts is that the ground wire from the horn comes from the back of the horn and goes into the back or bottom (other end of the steering wheel) of the steering box and enters the steering box is this correct for grounding the column ? Thanks Paul.

            That wire is isolated from the column with a fiber or bake-lite washer at the button.
            The wire passes through the hollow steering shaft/worm assembly and out
            Bottom of the steering box.
            If it grounds or "shorts" to the column the horn will sound.

              Wow Tom when I realized the wire came from the steering box I thought for sure someone put it there as a prank. Thanks Paul. Also all of the lights are working very strong except the brake lights, they have always been good until this fuse blowing and a very recent major over haul of the brake system.
