  • Time to work on my own

I decided today I would work on my own truck for a change. I purchased a new floor mat from John Giedl two rallies ago and it was time to install it in Stubby, my 59 W200. These are really high quality floor mats and the only ones available that I know of. It's a straight forward install you just have to make sure of where to cut the holes for the shifters. The other holes are prepunched or marked. These mats work for 57-60 Power Giants and TownWagons. You have to trim for the stepwells on the later trucks.
One of the guys who came to my rally sold me a factory rear bumper with brackets. The bumper was tweaked and had a hitch ball was welded to it. A little work with the torch and hammer and punch brought it around. I have to use my bumper machine ( mini excavator) to hold it down to take aout a twist yet. With a good sanding and paint it will really finish off the back of my truck just in time for Iowa. Next is an exhaust manifold that is cracked between # 5 and 6. So what has everyone else been doing? Don't just read the posts, go ahead and reply please. We won't bite, LOL. Ron

    Rally Ready?

    Ron,

It's good to hear that you are going to be at the rally again this year!

There is an outside chance that I might be able to bring my dodge this year.

I will see you there and good luck getting things finished in time.

Well, I am still shopping for a Power Wagon. I hope to come across a good Power Giant one of these days.
So, lacking a PW to work on, I am rebuilding my 81, Jeep J10 Honcho. Just finished repairing and repainting a short/wide bed that is going to replace the short stepside bed currently on the truck.
Those mats are nice. I got one for my 70 W200, that I recently sold to Paul Cook.

Rick I look forward to the rally every year and I expect to see your M.

Jeff, that bed looks good. I guess making a fender turned into more that you thought? That will be a neat little truck when it's done. Don't give on the PG as you know they'll pop up when you least expect it. Maybe you'll hang on to the next one ha ha. Is Iowa in your plans this year? No one will run you off if you show up in the Jeep. Say hi to your sweet tea drinker for me.

          Ron,

Good to hear you will finally have a chance to work on one of your own trucks.

I put a floor mat in my 59 power giant about a month ago, it was one I bought from John G and it fit very nicely.

Today I finished sandblasting and priming the tub on the 65 Townie. Tomorrow I will start pulling some dents. If I have time I plan to try and find a fender to use as a patch on the rear fender well.

That's a trick phrase "fairly quick" ha ha. Powder coated axles will look nice, I've never had anything powder coated but would like to. Do you have a small or big back window? I'm working with a friend on a headliner kit and I have one ready to paint for the green 58 I've been working on. So hold on a bit and we may be in business. Do have the center bar with plastic strip? Hope the fairly quick assembly works out.

                Ron,
What I mean y fairly quick is when work and most of all "the wife lets me have time to finish" she seems to think now that it is summer yard work is more important. All that is left to paint is the front clip. The bed and cab came out excellent. I need to get the bed wood installed someday soon.
Hopefully be able to haul it to the rally in 2010.

Funny how the wife always has different priorities then we do. At least mine likes to mow the grass and I gave her a day of honey do labor a couple of weeks ago to keep the peace. I've got to get a bumper straightened and painted for mine today. I'm also having my seat recovered in time for the rally. Add to this doing finishing touches on the green 58 and a front brake job. It's a good thing my pal Pieter is here to help out big time.

How about some sneak peak pictures when you get the cab set?

                      That's easy enough http://community.webshots.com/user/Powergiant
Go there and you can see some that are here as well as some that have passed through here. We got the bumper straightened and I just sprayed a coat of primer on it. By the way the Webshots page is free so you can post as many album and pictures as you want of your own. I'm taking my seat over tonight to have it recovered since HemiBob spent 4 hours searching for the fabric in Chicago yesterday. Can't wait to get it recovered. Well I think the first coat had flashed off by now. Later

                        Ron,

Which one of your great looking trucks are you bringing to the Iowa rally?

Stubby is one of my favorites!

Frank, that is some really outstanding work on just the chassis, I can't wait to see the sheet metal. Keep up the good work.

Longhunter7, I will be bringing Stubby out along with the green 58 of Terry Johnson's. You've got a trailer lined up for that M37 right? ;o)

                              Possibilities?

                              Ron,

It looks like I will be bringing my Dodge if the Lord is willing and the creeks don't rise!

Through the generosity of a member on the forum, I have the use of a trailer to make things happen.

This should be another great rally again and I am looking forward to this years events.
