Gordon,
I enjoyed Sitting on the Tailgate in the latest issue of PWA. It reminded me of my father and his photographic hobby. I haven't heard the term "fixer" in 40 years. Dad used to develop and enlarge his photos in the basement. I remember him taking the film out in the dark and processing it in several trays of chemicals that smelled weird. He handled the photos with plastic tongs and hung them up to dry. The whole process seemed to be very complicated. I never got involved in the process, although he showed me what he was doing several times. I still have his cameras, a Zeiss Ikon Super Ikonta B and a Zeiss Ikon Contessa 35mm. As old as these cameras are I believe the picture quality is better than my Nikon produces.
