New guy here. Hate my first post to be a for sale but I don't have anything else worthwhile to contribute yet. Have learned alot already.
I have a '53 M-37 rolling chassis that isn't needed anymore. Engine, trans and transfer case are. The only thing missing is the driveshafts. Intermediate shaft is there. 4 wheels and junk tires. Rolls OK. Not a winch chassis.
Located in Los Angeles.
$750 out of line?
Make me an offer. I'll have some pictures shortly.
Thanks!

Welcome!
Having a worthwhile comment is in the eye of the reader and frankly...it hasn't stopped me yet....ha!ha!
I know of at least two guys in the LA Area that might be interested, but they post here and can do their own talking.
Any photos?
What region of LA? One of them is south in the O.C. and one is east in San Bernardino, both have trailers and could already be on your doorstep....= ) They have a virus....= )

haha
Thanks Norm. I'm in L.A but the chassis is Palmdale area.
I'll get some pix this weekend. I'm going for a visit this weekend.

Dang!.... two of them drove right through Palmdale last Sunday! Bypassing the tunnel fire after coming back from the Hollister Rally....= (

Thanks Bruce!
I looking forward to hanging around here. I really have my heart set on a '41 WC command car (like everybody else!) but it'll have to wait. My brother in law is in the hunt for a same year ambulance. They will be both stockers except for better brakes and some hp upgrades. Drive SoCal freeways and you'll understand!
And I'm looking for a tailgate for a M-37 or at least one I can measure so I can fab one up.

Before I knew what I was doing, I was south of the border<LOL>! Kurt Hirte might be able to help you out, he's in Costa Mesa, good horse trader he is.
I'll measure mine in a little bit, getting ready to do some sanding.

HAHA! I've gotten lost more than once. I really try not to get lost in Compton in the dark. And it did happen going on a fabled "32 Ford in a garage" hunt.
Tailgate info would be great! No rush.
I gotta dig up a few pix of the front/back of one to see how it is put together anyhow. Any idea on the gauge the OEM gates are made from?

Bruce
10-18-2007, 10:43 PM
I'm thinking it's 16 guage, a couple of guys are doing repros, Sheldon of JeePanelsPlus in Paris, ME might be the maker of most, if not all of the near perfect copies.
Someone on your coast had some made, but they were $$'y?

MoparNorm
10-19-2007, 01:23 AM
I'm leaning towards 14ga on the structural parts, ... if not all of it in 14ga.
The lighter Civilian gates were 16ga.

I figured we would get some more input, most likely Norm is correct, as usual. Thanks Norm,

I don't have the technical specs in front of me, I'm going by what I have read from other models.
I'm willing to bet that Paul Cook may have some documentation that will confirm/correct this info.
PAUL?

Wow! You guys are good! Thanks all but don't go out of your way. No rush. I'm not starting tailgate until the new year. Thought it might be handy to have the measurements if I get a wild hair one day.
Maybe somebody has some inner windshields laying around?
Gotta ask...I am willing to trade for stuff!

Irish,
I'm going to ask a dumb question since I'm new to the older Dodge's.. Are the rims a standard split or combats on the M-37 chassis ?

Have to say, I've missed my Command car twice .. still kicking myself !..

Irish
10-19-2007, 07:19 PM
Without a picture it's a fair question. Just regular split rims on this one.
The combats as far as I know were on WWII WC chassis only. I'm no expert by any means. I haven't seen a original M37 wearing them doesn't mean they didn't come with them. I did a stash of combats hiding in the hills. I might go drag them down if there is some intertest.

Thanks for the reply Irish...

Thought that might be the deal.. but couldn't hurt to ask ..

If you have a set of Combats that you are thinking of selling, please let me know...

Always interested, but my/your location might kill the deal?

Irish
12-11-2007, 12:31 PM
Still got it...anybody in SoCal want it? I'll trade for a tailgate or ? plus cash.
Make an offer! I'm in LA but it is located an hour north of the city in Palmdale.
And I did find the rear driveshaft. Engine is complete and turns.

JimmieD's a couple of hours from Palmdale, maybe you can entice him into another project...ha!ha!

Jimmie and Norm stay broke all the time because they compete with each other to see whom can have the most Dodge projects going at one time. Is my analysis correct Norm?

Ha!
Pretty much!

Irish
12-13-2007, 10:01 AM
Well, either way it has to go by January 1st. If not, it goes for scrap weight. It's just in the way (at a friend's place no less!) and I have zero use for it. I have 3 trucks now!
I'd hate to see go for scrap metal when there is alot of good parts still.
My friend, where the chassis is sitting, has a high desert '57 Dodge cab and chassis if anyone needs parts off it. It's days are numbered as well so act fast.
I'm going up this coming weekend and I'll snap some pix.

MoparNorm

I'm getting more interested, hate to see anything scrapped...look forward to the pics.

Irish
12-13-2007, 02:42 PM
Will have pix up on Sunday.
Maybe not...
Seems my wife reminded me last night that the new counter tops are going in on Saturday so no weekend desert trip for me. If they get done early enough maybe I can disappear for a few hours.

Irish
12-18-2007, 01:26 PM
New price! $400!
This will be ready to go this Sunday AND I'll throw in a set of M37 gauges.
It will go for scrap weight first week of January if I can't get rid of it.
Say you want it and it can sit for a week or two.

MoparNorm
12-18-2007, 02:21 PM
Hey JimD! Will your Townie fit on this?
What's the wheelbase Irish?

Irish
12-18-2007, 03:07 PM
I'm pretty sure she is 112" but it's not a real big deal to add or cut down the frame if it needs to fit something else. Done it a few times myself. Doing it again in a few weeks actually.
And it's a '53 if that makes a difference.

MoparNorm
12-18-2007, 04:22 PM
There you go Jim, the TW is 114"....= ) close enough...

Irish

Last time you'll hear about this one.
Here is a few pix. The engine/trans was rebuilt sometime in the not so distant past as near as I can tell. Turns over by hand.
Clutch/brake pedals assembly is junk and gone. Running boards and brackets are gone. Anything related to the body is gone. I will, however, give the buyer a set of S/W gauges and a 4K cable driven tach as well.

Irish,

It looks like there are two exhaust pipes coming from the manifold. Is that the case? Wish I was in SoCal.

Bruce
12-23-2007, 09:23 AM
I looked at that pic a few times, didn't notice that until you brought it up? Custom made for less back pressure maybe??
Merry Christmas All,

Irish

It's a Dodge part, number and all. I looked at that and thought it was kind of weird.

MoparNorm

Headers!
The value just doubled! post that picture at the "Header Thread"...= )

Irish
12-23-2007, 01:27 PM
It looks a factory cast piece to me. I'll get the part number off it later.
As I thought, a passenger car factory manifold.
Alittle FYI for you guys:
There is performance stuff out there for these engines. Nicson and Offy both made hi comp heads and Offy made headers and 2x2 intakes.
I have a few catalogs from 53-'58 and it's in there. I scan a few pages when I get a chance.
I am a hot rodder first and MV collector second. ;)
check this guy's engine out. very cool.

My grandfather used to drive his Plymo-Lymo as we called it, with his knees and roll his own cigarettes.
Actually it was a staff car, sort of streched, it did have a pair of jump seats that folded away.
I was disappointed that your sound link didn't work for me, is that still functioning?

Irish
12-23-2007, 05:23 PM
Not my site and the sound page seems to be gone.
Thought some of you guys would get a kick out of a hopped up six.
Try this...same car.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OMukzqkY0Z8&feature=related
Or this one...kinda short though.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IYbjUPuiMcQ&feature=related
And this thing still has a date with the crusher. Last call.
$400

There is two ways! 10 Freeway or the 14 and you're there! ;)
Oh and it helps sway you, I think it has about 40,000 miles on it or so the odometer read.

I was was just thinking, Irish, have you posted this on any of the other boards/Forums?

The location isn't the problem (I'd be coming from the 138), I just can't get away from work right now, just started some new projects that require my time down here....= (

Nobody has come to see it yet.
I posted it on craigslist and I was going to eBay it but if I can't get folks in SoCal to take it I doubt I'd get a serious buyer there. I was going try the ss board but figured everyone there reads this one too.
My friend has a roll back and MIGHT be willing to drop it off within 100 miles for extra money. I'd have to ask.
It's really too bad I don't have the room. I'd build some sort of a phantom command car out of it.

Bruce
12-30-2007, 03:23 PM
Try throwing it over on Robi's page, g741.org, not the classified but on the open forum....How about Joe C's page?
Another reason might be that $'s are tight?
Hate to see it go 4 scrap. :~(

Irish

Let's try this.
Anybody wants parts off this thing?
I'll part it out the bare rails... and ship it anywhere on your dime. I have a REASONABLE shipper coming to SoCal heading east to MO. in Feb.
Just ask.

MoparNorm
