I have a old set of Indestro sockets in a small Red tray 3/8 to 3/4 with a hex handle that locks the sockets into the case.I have carried that little set along with a small extention I made up for the hex handle for a little more leverage .I have relied on that little Indestro set for many years along with a few other basic hand tools, mini mag lite + a small test lite + jump wire packed away in a little Leather pouch that I carry in the right saddlebag of my old Harley.I have done many repairs with that small set

I use a 30 caliber ammo can to pack a set of basic tools along everywhere I go. My Barcalo combination wrenches, a small multimeter, 2 small pipe wrenches, a tubing cutter, several screwdrivers, folding Allen wrench set, files, electrical jumper wires, various pliers and Vice Grips, electrical tape, teflon tape, inspection mirror, small punch and several more I can't remember just now. I couldn't function without these old friends.

I think that as small boys we acquired various things we believed were pretty neat, and put them in a special place. It could have been a box or a drawer, it did not matter. It was the place we went to when we wanted to look at these things.
A favored tool set is the same kind of thing.

I'm with Russ on the .30 cal ammo can, I keep one in my truckbox. I hate to pull everything out to search the bottom of the can for sockets. So I pop-rivited some metal socket holder-rails to the inside of the lid. Stuck the little metal socket holder-clips on... The sockets stick well to them and are always on top when I need them.
