I'm hoping to see a lot of folks on the 7th and 8th. I work a 24 hour shift at the F.D. on the 6th but should arrive in Fairfield by late morning on the 7th. It's only 102 miles or 2 1/2 hours by Power Wagon from my home to the Fairgrounds. Unfortunately we have to depart the evening of the 8th as Colt has a big baseball tournament starting the 9th and going through Sunday. Baseball supercedes all at my house. If you're attending, please post the days you will or won't be there.

Be there all week, leaving on Sunday...I reckon we'll catch up sooner or later.

A couple of friends and I are flying in on the 7th, just for the day. They both just bought restored Power Wagons, '50s vintage, after I introduced them to them a few months ago. Unfortunately, none of us have the time to bring the trucks, or stay more than one day. Hope it is long enough to see some worthwhile things.

Anyone know how far the airport is to the place we should go first? Never been there and would appreciate some suggestions of how to maximize our time.

Where are you flying into... Cedar rapids? That is somewhat over an hour to Fairfield. You'll probably see the most right at the fairgrounds...

If you're flying into Des Moines, it's about 100 miles, Kansas City about the same. VPW is only a few miles from the fairgrounds where the trucks assemble.

Quite frankly, haven't even looked to see where closest airport is. We're flying a private jet, need about 5000' of runway. I've been assuming there is a general aviation airport close, hopefully in Fairfeld. 'Bout time to start planning the trip, I guess. :-)

Just checked, Fairfield has an airport with a 5500' runway, 3 miles northwest of downtown. No problem getting in there.

Where should we go first to see the most activity and get the lay of the land, so to speak?

Hmmm...500' to spare. You're pilots probably make Aspen look easy!

The fairgrounds is where you register/sign in. That is probably the best starting point, then: discuss

Don't really need 5000', but less than that and it starts getting a little less comfortable. (BTW, the jet isn't mine. I've flown all kinds of airplanes, but I now own a 1947 Ercoupe. It is just slightly faster than my M37. :-))

Molly and I have confirmed reservations at the Best Western Fairfield, we check in Thurs 7th, check out Mon 11th. Still haven't finalized travel plans but the sleeper train idea is out due to cost. We will probably fly NY to Chicago, Chicago to Cedar Rapids or Demoines sp?. We may take train from Chicago to Ottumwa. The only part thats 99% sure is that we will fly Jet Blue NY- Chi 50$ per person,Thats why we are staying Sun Night. Chi-Ny Sun nite costs 125$ per person, Monday 50$ per. Looking at the journey as an adventure and we are open to all suggestions. Chicago and Iowa residents as well as frequent fliers please chime in with advise. Thinking about renting a convertible.

Ps: Mollys 11 yrs old but has two rallys under her belt,Vermont and West VA

I've been here at Vintage for over a week already. I will leave the Tuesday after rally. Can't wait to put faces to names from the forums.

It will be easier than you think for some of us... It will be good to catch a breath of fresh air.

I will probably be delivering a trailer full of goodies to Fairfield on Saturday June 2nd. Or, I may have to make two trips to Fairfield on Tuesday June 5th to get everything there. (Almost exactly 100 miles from the end of my drive to the front gate at VPW). In any case, Spence and Junior (my big brother and I) should be in Fairfield early Tuesday and will be leaving Sunday morning bright and early. Martie has to work most of the week and will probably not make it to the Rally until sometime on Friday (possibly Thursday night). She will most likely leave Saturday afternoon with the trailer.

Shy Dave, would it be okay for Martie to bring your parts with her when she comes? She will have dry inside storage in the vehicle in case of rain.

I will be leaving Massachusetts on Wed early a.m for my 1200 mile pilgrimage to Power Wagon Mecca ( aka the Rally).....been looking forward to this event for months now as it will be my first. Will be stopping overnight at Kevin Foust's in Ohio and we will be traveling on to the Rally on Thurs, hope to be there in time to check out the Teeter board competition. Will be staying thru till Sun a.m....Hope to see a good turn out of Power Giants there... Kevin in Rehobothhttp://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c17/58powerwagon/W200PowerWagon010.jpg

I see no problem with your plan...except limited time to see Martie. Guess you and your bro will have to suffice til she shows ;-)

I plan on pulling out of Vermont Monday morning, and arriving Fairfield Tuesday late. 1200 miles! Really looking forward to seeing old friends, meeting folks I "know" through the Forums and meeting altogether new friends. Starting home on Sunday morning, should be home Monday night.
If anyone needs any parts hauled out, let me know.
Remember how excited you used to get waiting for Christmas when you were 6?
Really looking forward to it all!
