If you have a steering box but it needs a rebuil you can get a rebuilt unit or a rebuild kit from Firm Feel depending on what box is in it. I'm guessing you've got a Saginaw in there now so they should be able to help. They'll also sell you a rebuilt outright with an extra core charge. In addition Flaming River now has a brand new box they manufacture for Mopars that might work, so you could give them a call. These rebuilt or new boxes run from maybe $225 to $400 depending, but you end up with a good box either way. Rebuild kits are cheaper of course.

Jimmie, I would buy a core for rebuild also. I don't think firm feel would have one for my application in stock but I will check with them. I have used a company caled Lares mfg in the past for rebuilding steering boxes and was very pleased. As a side note the fast ratio flaming river a,b,e body steering boxes are junk as far as I am concerned...Too much play in them, I went through three of them ,many calls to so called experts etc...

Thanks for the Flaming River info. I always had a sort of feeling that they might be more hype and ad masters than engineers. Like for steering swivels, I'l take Borgeson, thanks.

By their site, it appears that they only do automobile steering gears. No?

Some of these Saginaw boxes cross reference between cars and trucks, thanks to mfgr's desiring to maintain minimum inventories. Obviously entirely dependent on that good old part number. Steer & Gear and Firm Feel both service several makes as far as I know, and across that broad spectrum have access to just about anything a guy could want I imagine. The websites fall far short of listing a detailed inventory of available parts, services and accessories available, typically displaying only the major items or relatively hot sellers. Last time I checked Firm Feel site I didn't even see rebuild kits however they do offer them.

Are you aware of companies with similar availabilities of power steering gears and parts?

Yes, both of those mentioned, Steer & Gear and Firm Feel, and there's some others I can chase down. Some of that info is hopefully archived on another drive so if I don't post it that means I forgot to check, and please remind me. I hope it's still there....

Hey,
I found a 76 Chevy C30 dually with (7) 19.5" rims for $50/each (wrecking yard). Is the hub diameter an issue with your W300 as on the 70's trucks?

Duh!! I didn't even think of that. They Chevy wheels are 8-lug. I did pass another Dodge, I think a 67/68 D300 dually, but didn't check out the wheels. I'll be in the neighborhood of that yard Tuesday. I'll run in and check.

Early 3/4 ton gm and Dodge share a common 8 lug pattern, HOWEVER most gm center hub holes are too small to fit Dodge axles, so measure twice buy once...= ) Ferd also shares the same bolt circle, but with larger lugs on newer models, so beware!

Norm, Thanks for the info. My truck has six bolt wheels, the ford wheels on a dodge can work by getting bigger diameter lug nuts from stockton wheel.. I used some on a previous project and they worked great.
