This is a reply [I added] to bring this topic back into the last 30 day range.

Administrator note: This is a thread created by splitting all posts following Ken's first post to promote an event. He had noticed that his initial post was not appearing due to a display preference regarding elapsed time.

Please see the evolution of this thread to understand what happened.

I felt this would be more useful to users here in the computer forum, as people would not likely be looking in events for computer hints...

In reply to Ken, and others who have not examined this issue and the related control panel feature.

You access the point of control for this by clicking on the user cp button at the top of this page, or any other forum page.

Procedure:
[list=1]
Click on user cp

Click on Edit Options

Scroll down to Default Thread View

Go to the drop-down and make a choice.

The simplest and safest thing to choose is Show all threads

Gordon,

What is the forum default setting?

Phil,

That is a very good question.... I hate to tell you this, but I have not been able to figure that out yet. I have access to the forum administrative control panel. It is a bit like being at the helm at Houston Control during a launch.

The frustrating this at this point is that the very question you ask is one I have not yet been able to answer. I want you to know that I am pretty unhappy about that.

As soon as I figure it out, I will let you know.

Gordon,
The way I normally do it is to look at everything and then hit the "mark all forums read" line at the top of the main page of the main forum. Then when I go back and check the new posts show up.

PhilS sent me this e-mail:

Hi Gordon,

In regards to the Default Thread View - Forum Default setting for days to view, I checked out the admin demo at the vBulletin website. Can you look at your Forum Administrator under Forums & Moderators, Modify, then edit on any of your forums? On the demo site it shows 30 days for the Default View Age setting.

Phil,

You are a heck of a guy.... I hate to admit it, but I was staring at the control panel at about 3AM this morning, and not getting it. I have made all the forums now default to show all threads. Someday, when we are eyeball deep in content, I may want to change that, but I think it is a good choice now.

Thank you so much for being so diligent in this matter and finding the answer. You must be a computer enthusiast, in addition to a Dodge enthusiast.

Sign me appreciative,
Gordon

Gordon,

Glad it worked; not much I can help with on these great old trucks yet, but can occasionally help with computers.

That is a good method to use, too, I think, and perhaps easier to keep straight in one's mind.
