I usually go to the "New Posts" button when I log in and just read the new posts. The "Mark All New Posts as Read" button is very handy, but could this feature be done on individual Forums? Sometimes, I get interrupted before reading all new posts, so I don't want to mark all new posts as read, only the ones that I've finished reading. What are your thoughts on this Gordon?

If I take your language literally, yes, you can go into an individual forum, such as this computer forum, and after having read the new posts in that forum, you can [from within that forum] click on mark this forum read, and it will do that.

You can also, from the main forum page, mark all forums read, but there is disadvantage to that, and it is my understanding that you would like to avoid that disadvantage.

Did I understand you correctly?

When you arrive, you can also look at the indicators on the left side.... you see the icons or symbols. At the bottom of the page is some explanation about what they mean. You could also look for the yellow indicators as representation of where there are posts you have not read.

If I understand you right, Russ, this feature should be happening automatically and you shouldn't have to mark a forum as read.
As you read a message it is marked read by setting a value in a cookie on your computer so that the next time you login only those messages you have not read will show the yellow unread icon as Gordon mentioned. For this to work you need to have your browser set to accept cookies and set the cookie option in your profile on this site.

Per your quote above, I am unable to find anything that allows me to mark individual forums as 'read'. That's exactly the feature that I am interested in. What am I missing here? I'm still learning the features on this really neat system, so I may have missed a step or two.

When you are inside a forum, but not inside a thread, look at the upper right. You will see a feature to click on that allows you to mark that forum as read.

Also, notice the quote button that is above the post reply button. That allows you to do what you chose to do with your quotation marks, but it also makes it bold. You can delete text from the quoted passage, as I did with your text above.

Also, has everyone noticed the edit button that is above the post reply button? You can go into your post, for a while after you posted it, and make changes or additions.

Keep talking, ask more questions.... and I am glad you like the forum software. I tried to be careful in the selection of it.

Enjoy...
