has anybody ever had any problems with their cd-r drives not recognising blank cd's?? My old cd burner didnt have any problems with it but then it burned out so i got a new one. Installed the drive and everything works fine except it wont recognise a blank cd so i cant do any burning??? Are certain cds not recognised by some cd burners? i didnt know if it was the cd's or just my drive? any help would be appreciated. Thanks a lot.

I was involved in a diagnosis like this at work, directed by one of our tech people. The essence of his remarks was that if you put a known, good CD in it, one that has files on it, whether it be one you made or a commercial one, and if you can read it with your drive, that suggests it is your CD recording software, not your hardware.

Will it read other CD's?

hey, thanks for the response. Yes it will read other cd's with no problem. I have tried 2 different software programs for recording and neither one would work. I used Roxio and windows media player recorders and neither recognised a cd being in the cd player. It just gave me a message saying to please insert a blank recordable cd into the writer? any suggestions on what i should do? when i place a blank cd in the recorder the light will just blink a few times and then stop like it doesnt recognise anything being in there. Thanks again.

I had a similar problem with mine. Try getting a different size and type of cd. Mine did not like the size I was using.

Good Luck - Jill

Has all of this experimentation only been with one blank CD? You can also have a bad CD. Do try another, as Jill suggests.
