Over a period of time there have been inquiries regarding a two wheel drive forum.... could we have one?
I sent notes to all registered user soliciting their opinions. A lot of users said it would interest them and they would use it. So.... here you go, Dodgers.
Any age, from the very oldest to the newer trucks. Many of you have a 4X2 hat you have acquired along the way. You may want to post a photo of it, too....
Have fun with it.

You.... I was looking here for your e-mail address to send you a note, since we had talked on this, and you beat me to it!
How do you feel about the name?
Thanks for writing.

since it's the front axle that doesn't drive on these things surely it should be .... erm.... bringing up the front?
No, no, let me see now - pushing out in front?

It is a dilemma, to be sure.
[the power is] bringing up the rear. It is a phrase I believe to be rooted in the military.
We will see if Paul Cook comments on this...

of the argument we always had concering the horse pushing/pulling the wagon.
My contention has always been the horse/mule is pushing the collar, and pulling the wagon. This is in no way logical to some, however.
I may be looking at a 1975 SWB 1/2 ton. It is 2X4:), and has a three speed with the slant 6.
Does anyone have any comments on these trucks? Things to watch out for? Likes? Dislikes?
Thanks.

There was a problem with the 2wd frames cracking around the steering box in the '70s/early '80s, something to look out for. Other than that, 2wds should be pretty good, we always assume around here that a 2wd hasn't been pulling hard all it's life...
This would especially be true of a Slant 6/3 on the tree truck, I would think...

Bringing up the rear? Ya, somebody has to come along and pull out the 4 X's that get stuck, ahhahahaha!
Thanks for this Gordon. My 4X is in need of extensive work but in the meantime the 2X is going strong so I still feel at home here. Thanks again.

Really glad to see this addition! I have a K6-D100 with three on the tree and a K8-D100 with a 315 Poly and TorqueFlite tranny. Just got the V8 running again, but need to swap out the leaky carb and rebuild the heads (sticky valve). Will probably be selling the K6, even though it's a daily driver, as I can't afford to tie up that much space in the garage. Need room for hay for the sheep.

Gordon,
Can you tell me how you got the 5 speed in your W-300? Which type of tranny did you use, and what sort of mods did you have to do? I ask because I too have a W-350 with a 440 and am looking to ditch the NP 435 4 speed tranny in favor of a 5 speed. I have a 205 x-case. Any knowedge would be helpfull thanks

It is a New Process 540. That transmission was used by Dodge, Ford, Chevrolet, IH, and Studebaker.
Mine came out of a Studebaker. The guy at the yard where I bought it replaced the input shaft and out put yoke with Dodge stuff, so it would fit.
The transmission fit right into the bellhousing. It works great.

No, I don't, but they are out there to be found, just not very common.
